Lauren Ramos: A Journey of Love, Growth, and Advocacy in Foster Parenting

Lauren Ramos, a corporate lawyer in Richmond, Virginia, embarked on a life-changing journey as a foster parent just over a year ago. Lauren's heart overflowed with a desire to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children. With her two faithful companions, Ruthie and Brady, by her side, Lauren opened her home and heart to two young boys, aged 5 and 7. "I've always liked the idea of giving back... I wanted to help give [stability and security] to kids who need it most," Lauren shares, reflecting on her motivation to become a foster parent.

Like with any new journey, Lauren faced her share of challenges and uncertainties. As a single parent, she grappled with doubts about her ability to provide adequate support. However, with unwavering determination and the support of her local community, Lauren forged ahead, determined to offer these children a loving and stable home.

One of the most rewarding aspects of Lauren's journey has been witnessing the simple joys experienced by the children. From their first glimpse of the ocean to their first playdates and birthday parties, every moment has been a reminder of the transformative power of love and stability.

However, Lauren's journey has also been marked by challenges, including navigating the complexities of the foster care system. From delays in enrollment to bureaucratic hurdles, Lauren faced obstacles that tested her resilience. Yet, through perseverance and resourcefulness, she overcame these challenges, learning the importance of advocacy and self-reliance in the process.

"My support system was critical... You need physical and emotional support more than you realize," Lauren emphasizes, acknowledging the invaluable role played by her friends, family, and the Intercept Health team.

Looking ahead, Lauren remains committed to her role as a foster parent, embracing the opportunities for growth and learning that lie ahead. With milestones such as school enrollment and swimming lessons already achieved, Lauren's goals for the upcoming year include fostering a sense of joy and stability in her home, as well as guiding the children through the transition to permanency with compassion and care.
